Get drug by NDC

Returns all known metadata for a drug product by NDC. Accepts the 9-digit HIPAA product NDC or an 11-digit package NDC, hyphenated or not; a package NDC resolves to the product the package is sold under. Fields derived from RxNorm — ingredients, atcClasses, mechanisms, the other classification facets, and brand/generic linkage — are empty for the categories RxNorm's scope excludes: homeopathic preparations, contrast media and non-therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, bulk powders, and most OTC monograph products, plus allergenic extracts. That is roughly 6,700 listed products, and it includes approved brand-name diagnostic imaging agents, not only fringe categories. Those products still return their FDA fields, including pharmClasses. Filtering on any structured facet therefore excludes them

Response

  • Active ingredient unit
  • Active numerator strength
  • FDA application number
  • atcClassesobject[]
ATC (Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical) classes, each with its ATC code and UMLS CUI when mapped
  • brandProductsobject[]
Branded products this product is marketed under. Populated for generics (SCD/GPCK); empty for a product that is itself branded.
  • chemicalClassesobject[]
Chemical classes, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • chemicalInteractionsobject[]
Chemical interactions, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • contraindicationsobject[]
    Contraindications
  • DEA schedule
  • dispositionsobject[]
Dispositions, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • Dosage form name
  • doseFormstring
    RxNorm dose form
  • End marketing date
  • The product NDC as published in the FDA NDC directory, in the labeler's native segment lengths (5-3, 4-4, or 5-4 — e.g. '0904-7851'). Not an identifier to join on: it is ambiguous under zero-padding, so '62106-001' and '62106-0001' are different products.
  • genericProductsobject[]
Generic products this product corresponds to. Populated for brands (SBD/BPCK); empty for a product that is itself generic.
  • hasProblemsboolean
Whether we hit a problem answering the request: the profile or company wasn't found, or a data source failed or timed out. Data may be missing or incomplete; problems, where the response has it, says which.
  • indicationsobject[]
    Indications
  • inducesobject[]
    Conditions this drug induces
  • ingredientsobject[]
Chemical ingredients (RxNorm), each with its RxCUI and UMLS CUI when mapped
  • inputParametersobject
Caller-supplied inputs echoed back in the response
  • isRetryableboolean
When isSuccess is false, whether sending the same input again could succeed. Always true when isSuccess is true.
  • isSuccessboolean
true when the request was answered with a result. false means no result was returned: check isRetryable, which is true when a data source failed or timed out and false when the input matched nothing.
  • AggKnowledge company ID of the labeler, resolved from the labeler name through FactSet. Absent when the labeler does not resolve to a company AggKnowledge tracks.
  • FDA labeler code: the first five digits of the HIPAA-normalized product NDC
  • Labeler (manufacturer) name
  • AggKnowledge company ID of labelerParentName, when it is a company AggKnowledge tracks
  • Name of the company at the top of the labeler's corporate group, per FactSet (Johnson & Johnson for Janssen Products). The labeler itself when nothing above it is a company.
  • Listing record certified through date
  • Marketing category name
  • MARKETED, DISCONTINUED (end marketing date has passed), NOT_YET_MARKETED (start marketing date is in the future), or EXCLUDED (FDA has delisted the record). Absent for an NDC known to RxNorm but not listed with FDA. Note listingRecordCertifiedThrough is deliberately not folded in: a lapsed certification means the listing is stale, not that the product left the market.
  • mechanismInteractionsobject[]
Mechanism-of-action interactions, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • mechanismsobject[]
Mechanisms of action, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • metadataobject
Caller-supplied metadata echoed back from the request.
  • NDC exclude flag
  • Non-proprietary (generic) name
  • packagesobject[]
The packages sold under this product, sorted by NDC. Each carries the 11-digit HIPAA package NDC, its hyphenated form, FDA's pack description, and the package's own marketing dates — which can differ from the product's.
  • pharmClassesobject[]
Established Pharmacologic Class (EPC) — FDA's designated class for the active moiety, the one printed in the label's Highlights section. Sourced from RxClass, which carries FDA's own SPL assignment. The label's other three class types are not duplicated here: MoA is in mechanisms, PE in physiologicEffects, CS in chemicalClasses. Empty for products RxNorm's scope excludes, which carry no structured classification at all.
  • pharmacokineticsobject[]
Pharmacokinetic properties, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • physiologicEffectInteractionsobject[]
Physiologic-effect interactions, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • physiologicEffectsobject[]
Physiologic effects, each with its UMLS CUI when mapped
  • preventionsobject[]
    Preventions
  • productNamestring
    RxNorm product name
  • 9-digit HIPAA-normalized product NDC (labeler + product, no hyphens) — this record's primary identifier. Same identifier the prescription count endpoints are keyed on.
  • The product NDC in HIPAA 5-4 hyphenated form (e.g. '00904-7851'). Use this to reconcile against claims and billing systems, which apply HIPAA zero-padding.
  • RxNorm product RxCUI
  • RxNorm term type (TTY)
  • RxNorm product type label
  • Product type name (e.g. HUMAN PRESCRIPTION DRUG)
  • Proprietary (brand) name
  • Proprietary name suffix
