Taxonomy
Every diagnosis and procedure result carries a category in a hierarchical taxonomy. There are two trees, one for diagnosis and one for procedure. Knowing the tree is what lets you roll clinical activity up to a chapter or drill into one category.
Browsing the tree#
Browse a healthcare taxonomy (Tier 4) navigates one taxonomy at a time. The path takes the taxonomy id (diagnosis or procedure); three query parameters control what you get back:
| Parameter | Behavior |
|---|---|
| (none) | Omit everything to list the root chapters. |
parentId | Pass a node id to list that node’s immediate children. |
q | Search the whole taxonomy by category name or code prefix. Paginates with page and pageSize (default 50, max 200). |
Walk down by feeding a node’s id back as the next parentId. Each node reports whether it hasChildren, its path back to the root, and rollup counts (hcpCount, hcoCount, and descendant counts) so you can gauge how much activity sits under it before drilling in.
Using it with diagnoses & procedures#
The category ids you discover here are the same ones that appear on Get HCP diagnoses and Get HCP procedures results. A typical flow: browse or search the taxonomy to find the category you care about, then read a professional’s diagnoses/procedures and filter to results whose category sits at or under that node — using each result’s path to test ancestry.
q) accepts a code prefix, so if you already work in a standard coding system you can jump straight to the matching branch instead of walking down from the root.
