Roles & Seniority

Filter on the taxonomy, not the title. Every work experience carries a normalized seniority, role, and subrole, and Discover filters accept the same vocabularies. Learn them once, use them everywhere. The canonical value lists live in the Enum Registry; this page says which one to reach for.

Seniority#

One flat scale: cxo, vp, director, manager, senior, and entry, plus owner, partner, training, and unpaid for roles outside the ladder. The complete list is JobSeniority.

Watch out: founder and owner-operator titles normalize to owner, not cxo. A co-founder comes back as owner, so a cxo filter does not return them.

Role & subrole#

Function is classified twice. role is the broad function (engineering, operations, finance: JobRoleV2) and subrole the specialization (data, devops: JobSubRoleV2). Each is published in two versions:

VersionStatusGuidance
v1Legacy taxonomyIgnore it. Present only so old integrations keep resolving — don’t read or filter on v1 values in new work.
v2Current, finer-grainedUse for everything. Discover filters and vendorgraphic queries are v2-aligned.

jobClass sits above both. A coarse bucket such as general_and_administrative, useful for org-shape analysis (full list in JobClass).

Go deeper: when a title looks ambiguous, the Normalize job title utility returns the exact role/subrole/seniority the API would assign. Use it to debug filter mismatches.
