Identifiers
A drug is referenced by its National Drug Code. Several NDC forms exist, plus an RxNorm concept id for the normalized product.
| Identifier | Notes |
|---|---|
productNdc | 9-digit HIPAA-normalized NDC — the primary key and the path parameter on Get drug by NDC, which also accepts an 11-digit package NDC and resolves it to the product. Either form works hyphenated or not. |
fdaProductNdc | The FDA product NDC in segmented form. |
packageNdcs | The 11-digit HIPAA package NDCs sold under the product, with a hyphenated twin in packageNdcsFormatted. |
productRxcui | RxNorm concept identifier (RxCUI) for the normalized product. |
Tip: NDC formats vary by source (dashed vs. padded, 10- vs. 11-digit). Match on the form you have — the matcher accepts the and/or/not shape — and store the canonical
productNdc the response returns.
